Ransomware Evolution

A new form of ransomware has managed to avoid detection by built-in security in Google Drive and Microsoft Office 365.

There is now Ransomware-as-a-service model that allows cyber criminals access to ransomware templates to launch attacks. The malware provider then takes a percentage of the dollar reward. These ransomware templates also allows the hacker to customise their demands and payload.

It seems pretty surreal when you think about it, but even SaaS applications are no longer immuned to the likes of Cyber Criminals.

This is why TCT partners with global backup company Datto.

Datto SaaS Protection won’t let their critical data slip through the cracks. Engineered to be the leading, one-stop shop for cloud-to-cloud SaaS application backup, SaaS Protection gives you consistently reliable granular backups, quick and easy restores and exports, secured data for compliance and regulatory needs, and world-class 24/7/365 support.

It is worth noting that 1 in 3 companies report losing data stored in cloud-based applications. That means the permanent deletion of potentially hundreds of work hours.

The truth is that even data in cloud-based applications are vulnerable to:

  • Malware damage or ransomware attacks
  • Accidental end-user deletion
  • Malicious end-user activity
  • Operational errors such as accidental data overwrites
  • Lost data due to cancelled user account subscriptions
  • Misconfigured application workflows
