Securing your Android Device

Securing your Android Device

So you have recently upgraded to a new android device.

But before you start adding in your account details, contact lists and photos, you should consider how you are going to keep all this data secure. It only seems fair that you treat your mobile device as an extension of your business network.

Here are a few things to consider when setting up a new device:

1. Use two-factor authentication
This is adding an additional layer of security to your account. So when you enter your password, you are prompted for a security code, which is sent to your mobile via text, voice call or a mobile app. With 2-Step Verification, if a bad guy hacks through your password layer, they will still need your phone or Security Key to get into your account.

2. Only use reputable apps
There is a number of unreliable, third-party apps stores that should not be underestimated, as a significant amount of mobile malware can still be found within malicious apps.

3. Backup your data
Backing up your phone and data is a no brainer and can be done through your Android system settings. When it comes to backing up sensitive and/or important information on your device, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

4. Install an internet security suite
If you think antivirus software is only for your laptop, think again. Most of us keep the majority of our lives stored on our smartphones, and they certainly deserve the same level of security as the rest of our devices. Making use of a trusted internet security suite means that your Android stays protected from mobile malware at all times. You can also handle your online shopping, banking and all other surfing without worries.

5. Use a virtual private network
A good VPN is a must on all mobile devices. When you use a VPN, your actual IP address is hidden from the services you visit. Not even your internet service provider can see what you do online. A VPN also blocks malicious sites and unwanted third-party tracking – this stops advertisers from making money at the expense of your privacy.

F-Secure TOTAL is the best in the business.

Not only does TOTAL provide your phone with the award-winning security of F-Secure SAFE, but it also includes a subscription to FREEDOME VPN.
